Here are two basic questions you might like to ask yourself as you reflect on the past twelve months and stand at the frontier of the New Year.

What actions have you taken in the past year that have been positive, successful and meaningful for you and your tribe? What would it look like to “double down,” 10x or even 1000x those?

What actions have you taken that have taken you away from where you want to be? Actions that have been counterproductive or caused unnecessary discomfort to you or others? What would it look like to do less of those things, or stop them completely?

It can be important and fun to seek new ideas and information, and look to others to advise you how to move forward – but it’s vital to take responsibility for the information that’s already at our fingertips. In your heart, in your relationships, in your career, in your bank balance – there is already ample data about what has and hasn’t been working for you.

What posture will you adopt today as you step into the next twelve months?

Will you choose to play ostrich with your head in the sand and pretend you have no control, no agency over what happens to you and the people you care about?

Will you meander without a clear destination and accept wherever you end up?

Or will you step forward with confidence along a path of your own design towards the future you are aiming for?

It’s your choice, and it’s better made today than tomorrow.
